Adoptionplus and Hertfordshire awarded DfE grant for Centre of Excellence
Aug 14th 2017
We are delighted to announce that Adoptionplus in partnership with Hertfordshire County Council has been awarded a Government grant to establish an Adoption Support Centre of Excellence for the region. We will be one of only three pioneering centres around the UK.
Teresa Heritage, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Hertfordshire County Council, said: “We are delighted in Hertfordshire to be working with Adoptionplus to create the best adoption support services for families... and their children and to share these approaches across the region”.
On hearing the news, Mark Lancaster MP for Milton Keynes North, said, “It was a real pleasure to visit Adoptionplus back in June. I saw first-hand the passion they have for helping children who often have very complex and upsetting backgrounds to find a family and give them hope for the future. So I am delighted to hear they are working with Hertfordshire County Council to develop improved adoption services in the region.”
This new regional Centre of Excellence for Adopt East covers Hertfordshire, Essex, Suffolk, Luton and Southend in partnership with Adoption UK, Health and Virtual Schools. Its aim is to promote a cohesive high quality effective approach to supporting families. The Centre also plans to provide resources for school counsellors, GPs and therapists working with adoptive families. Joanne Alper, Director of Services at Adoptionplus said “Families caring for children who have experienced loss and trauma absolutely deserve excellence in adoption support and we are really pleased to be involved in leading on the development of this innovative new approach. We believe these new regional Centres of Excellence have the potential to drive up the quality of adoption support provision on a national level”.
