Polyvagal Theory Online Brainfood Session

In this one hour lunchtime webinar Dr. Baylin will discuss the process of inner state travel and explain the Polyvagal Model of our nervous system developed by Dr. Porges. This model is helpful for parents and professionals understanding the three basic states of mind we can be in, ranging from Safe/Secure/Engaged to Active Defence (fight or flight) or Passive Defensive (freeze in fear).



Theraplay Level One

This four day training workshop is for qualified professionals who wish to undertake training on child/family counselling and attachment therapy.

Polyvagal Theory for Therapists: the science of inner state travel and applications to attachment-focused therapy (Online)

14 September 2022 | Presented by Dr Jonathan Baylin

Dr Jonathan Baylin will first present the neuroscience of inner state shifting between states of safety and states of defensiveness.   He will explain how the three basic states of our nervous system develop in safe, nurturing environments vs unsafe environments of care.  This brain-based explanation of the link between early life experience and the polyvagal model will give therapists the core knowledge they need to support their work with clients who are struggling with state regulation. In the second part of the workshop, Dr Baylin will present some of the ways that the polyvagal model can be applied in sessions and ways that therapists can practice their own inner state work.



Neurofeedback Therapy with Prof. Ruth Lanius (Online Conference)

Neurofeedback therapy could be used to treat epilepsy, anxiety, depression, and insomnia, among other mental health disorders.

Neurofeedback expert Prof. Lanius will describe an integrative treatment approach drawing on many therapeutic modalities, including but not limited to CBT, DBT, sensorimotor therapy, SMART (sensory motor affective regulation therapy), ego state work, EMDR, and neurofeedback with the goal of achieving an embodied, agentive self that is capable of feeling ‘whole’ and experiencing fulfilling relationships both with oneself and others.

Brain Based Therapy for Mental Health Professionals (Online)

Dr Jonathan Baylin will present a working model of how different therapeutic processes “work” to promote healthier brain functioning in our clients. He will provide a brain-based explanation of “top down” and “bottom up” approaches targeting improved balance of functional brain circuits supporting affective and cognitive functioning. This will include discussion of three key brain networks, the Salience System, the Default Mode Network, and Executive Task System and the interplay of these systems in different clinical conditions. Dr Baylin will explain how treatment, using different processes, can improve the dynamic interplay of these core systems to support healthier functioning.

This 2-day course will be an opportunity to learn about some creative, physical, sensory, and cognitive ways of supporting children and adolescents (and adults/ourselves) with feelings of anxiety, stress, worries, and fears.  Anxiety, stress, and fear are very common and prevalent; even more so in the current context of the pandemic.  So, feeling more skilled and confident in this area is hugely beneficial.  This course draws on tools and ideas from the award winning and best-selling Therapeutic treasure Box book, and from the anxiety workbook by Dr Karen Treisman “Binnie the Baboon”.

This conference will be considering the perspective of men who have had contact with the social care system. We will be hearing from birth fathers, adoptive and foster dads on their experiences and what they have found helpful. Train the Trainers

This train the trainers programme provides delegates with training that will equip them to deliver the Foundations for Attachments and the Nurturing Attachments Group Work programmes with parents and carers parenting children who are living away from their birth parents e.g. foster carers, adopters, residential workers and kinship carers.
